Sweet Relief: Burt’s Bees Lip Butter

Is there anything lovelier than discovering a top notch new lip product? One that soothes and moisturizes without causing pesky little breakouts? One that can be applied before bed and prevent dry lips all night long?

That’s exactly what I’ve found in Burt’s Bees Lavender & Honey Lip Butter. I’ve long considered Burt’s Bees the gold standard in lip care, and I usually have at least one tube of the classic balm on me at all times. This new lip butter is wonderfully moisturizing without the minty sting of the balm, which I can be irritating to sensitive skin. The butter is silky smooth and lightweight. It comes in an easy-open tin (seriously – I know how hard to open the old tins could be!) and I love the mild lavender scent – aromatherapy for the win!

Burt’s Bees Lip Butter comes in two other varieties: Rosemary & Lemon (which my sister is obsessed with) and Orange Blossom & Pistachio. And at less than $5 each, you might as well try more than one. I picked mine up at Ulta, but you can can also buy them online here.

Lavender Up

I love lavender – I have long considered it my signature scent. Sure, I occasionally stray from it, trying various perfumes and body lotions that do not contain that soothing floral, but I always return to it and always feel most myself when I’m wearing some sort of lavender – and I’m not alone. I’ve recently discovered that some of my coworkers love lavender as well. Inspired by our mutual lavender adoration, I’m spreading the word on some great products and sharing the lavender love.

The girls in my office are obssessed with Glendarragh Lavender (http://mainelavender.businesscatalyst.com). This Maine-based lavender company makes a variety of home and beauty products that any lavender junkie would desire. One of my coworkers can’t stop applying the Omni Herb Balm to her cuticles – it helps heal dry skin and calms her on particularly stressful days. Another one likes to spritz a lavender room spray to brighten spirits and give her office a lovely, subtle scent.

Recently I’ve been slathering J.R. Watkins Natural Apothecary Hand & Body Lotion in Lavender all over each morning before work. I bought it for less than $10 at my local Rite Aid, and it comes in a medicinal-looking purple and white bottle, which I love. It’s very moisturizing and, naturally, has that pure lavender scent that I adore.

The most recent addition to my lavender aresenal is Secret Scent Expressions antiperspirant and deoderant in “ooh-la-la lavender.” Unlike the lotion and cuticle balm, this product doesn’t smell like pure lavender oil, but it does have a lovely lavender-ish scent that lasts all day and keeps my underarms dry. Secret makes a matching body splash that I’m thinking of trying as well.

I still haven’t found the perfect lavender body spray or perfume – if anyone knows of a great one, please let me know. After all, it is my signature scent.

A Simple Pleasure

My apologies, loyal readers, for slacking lately in my posting. Like most people, I’m finding less and less time to complete all the things I need to get done. Holiday get togethers and increased work hours mean less time to blog about beauty. Add a little illness and a blown transmission, and I have just not been as on top of things as I would like.

Obviously my past couple of weeks have been bumpy, but in all of the stress and catastophre I have been pleasantly surprised by a body wash and lotion duo that I bought recently, simply because they were the first that I saw when I went to the drugstore.

Johnson’s Body Care Melt Away Stress Lavender and Chamomile Relaxing Body Wash and Lotion both come  in a pleasant light purple bottle and are lightly perfumed with a  lavender scent. The body wash is creamy and moisturizing and the lotion absorbs quickly and leaves skin silky. Every night I rub some on my feet right before bed, and maybe it’s all in my head, but I really do feel the stress melt away.

Thank goodness for simple pleasures.
