Well, it’s January, and that brings one word to mind: DRY. And I don’t mean in the abstaining from alcohol way.
No, I mean Dry January in the flaky skin, staticky hair, cracked cuticles kind of way. This time of year is especially brutal, but there are a few things we can do to mitigate that dry-weather damage.
1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Even if you’re a faithful water drinker, you probably need more than you think this time of year. Still looking for a New Year’s resolution? Challenge yourself to drink 100 ounces (or 12.5 cups) of water each day.
2. Moisturize. I like to cut beauty corners when I can, but now is not the time to skip the body lotion. Or conditioner. I just bought a vat of Palmer’s Cocoa Butter so I can slather myself in it each night before bed. Whatever your body lotion of choice, be sure to use it every day.
3. Paint your nails, save your cuticles. I unfortunately have a nasty habit of picking at my cuticles when they’re cracked. And this cold, dry, extra-hand-washing time of year, they’re cracked. Luckily, I can stop myself from picking by painting my nails – I never want to mess up a pretty manicure! I’m currently very into Londontown Lakur in Powder. It’s so easy to apply and dries super fast. Plus, the pearlescent shade is a perfect winter white.
